The Essential Dildo from Uberrime

Uberrime is a small American workshop that puts out handmade silicone dildos. Each one starts with a sculpture that is turned into a mold from which the hand-poured platinum silicone dildos emerge one at a time. Made with beautiful color combinations, each Uberrime toy is unique. I’ve had a few of the Uberrime dildos bookmarked for awhile, so I was pretty excited when Peepshow Toys asked if I’d be interested in trying a couple. I was sent the Essential, which I will be reviewing here, and the Splendid dual-density, which I will review in a separate post.

I received a package from “Marco the Maker,” the artisan, sculptor and proprietor of Uberrime. My first impression – seeing the two dildos side by side – was that I’d received two of the same dildo, because the size and general shape appeared so similar.  But once I started to give them a closer look, I realized they each possessed their own unique characteristics. Different textures, different thicknesses. One had a very defined head, while the other was more rounded. One was firm and had more of a curve, while the other was softer with a rigid core just under the surface. I decided to try the Essential first.

Examining the dildo on its own, I noticed was how visually appealing the piece was. Even though it sports a realistic shape and size, complete with rounded head, a nicely veined shaft (with a beautiful curve), and a nice raised ridge circling the upper portion of the shaft, all of this initially takes a backseat to the colors used in the dildo. Peepshow Toys is currently stocking three different color combinations and I was sent the Devil Red and Forged Gold dildo. The red is a rich coppery shade and mixes so well with the gold. You can even see glints of gold glitter. Since each piece is hand-poured, the dildo has a stunning marble effect and no two will look exactly alike.

The Essential in Devil Red and Forged Gold

I mentioned that each dildo is made of platinum silicone. This gives the user a product that is odor-free, skin safe, and built to last. The Essential is made with a medium density silicone which gives the toy a nice firm feeling. If you prefer your insertable toys to be on the stiff side, I’d probably recommend the Essential over the Splendid, the latter of which is made with a dual density formula which makes it feel less rigid. This is probably the most noticeable difference in the two toys that I tried. Even though the Essential has a nice firm feel, it still has a slight give to it when you squeeze it or bear down on it. This dildo has a 6.5-inch length (6 inches insertable) and a 1.5-inch diameter. There’s a raised ridge that nicely approximates a retracted foreskin and this gives the shaft a little more girth in this spot and a nice bit of texture. The head is shaped like glans, but doesn’t have an overly pronounced tip (compare with the beautiful defined glans on the Splendid). The base is wide and flat and while it isn’t specifically designed as a suction cup, the toy does adhere nicely to a smooth flat surface. The Essential is so visually appealing, you may just want to display it between uses.

Marco recommends using water-based lube with Uberrime toys. Be sure to give the dildo a good coating before penetrating. The silicone is smooth and has a bit of grab when going in, but plenty of lubricant makes everything slide in pretty effortlessly. The firmness of the silicone coupled with the textured ridge and veins make using the Essential a satisfying experience. You can definitely feel every bump and ridge. The dildo has a great curve to the shaft, which – when positioned properly – will send the toy right into your P-spot zone. One of the best things about using silicone sex toys is how they warm up to body temperature and feel so lifelike. If you enjoy thrusting, you’re going to have some fun with this one. The combination of the curve, the firmness and the textures really makes it feel like the real thing. One thing I forgot to mention about the base: it’s harness compatible, so if you enjoy or ever wanted to try pegging – as a top or a receptive partner – the Essential would make a pretty decent dildo to add to your collection. It makes a good prostate massager, too. Either slide the toy in until the tip is just where you want it, or enjoy the sensation of the curves and textures rubbing your spot. Even if you just prefer to put it all the way in and hold it there, the base is extremely comfortable for sitting on and/or holding in place for longer sessions.

So I’m definitely recommending this one. The Essential is a perfect choice for those looking for a realistically-shaped dildo but want something with unique fanciful colors. The red and gold in this piece look so good together, and there are two other color combos Peepshow is stocking as well: metallic aster purple/forged gold and metallic pink/black cosmos glitter. Its size and firmness would make this well suited for the experienced user, but even beginners can enjoy the curves and textures on the upper end of the toy while easing their way into taking more of the Essential. If you ever thought about adding a handmade silicone sex toy to your collection, these Uberrime dildos are beautiful to look at and feel just as good as they look.
